Is george lucas dating mellody hobson
creator George Lucas received some earthly love from his Hollywood pals this weekend after tying the knot with fiancée Mellody Hobson on Saturday night, a source confirms to PEOPLE.
Friends at the wedding – which took place in Marin County, Calif., where Lucas’s Skywalker Ranch is located – also shared the happy news via Twitter. Lucas, 69, became engaged to Hobson, 44, who heads the investment management firm Ariel Investments, in January, after dating since 2006.
“On one level, it is shocking, it does surprise you, but then you know Mellody, and it’s not surprising at all,” he says.
Because here’s the thing about Hobson’s remarkable life and all of this extravagant praise: it is earned.
Ariel’s offices in Chicago’s Aon Center building are on the 29th floor, where the light reflected from Lake Michigan illuminates the serene space.
One conference room is named for Warren Buffett, whose investing style Ariel emulates.
“The one thing I knew I could do is outwork everyone,” she likes to say.
Soon after her graduation from Princeton, Hobson joined Ariel Investments as an intern and rose to become the firm's senior vice president and director of marketing.
She is a regular contributor on financial issues on CBS This Morning and a spokesperson for the annual Ariel/Schwab Black Investor Survey.
Hobson serves on the board of many organizations, including the Chicago Public Education Fund, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art and the Sundance Institute.
I get a little nervous talking about her because the words are so flowery. And while she’s not a household name—at least not yet—she is at the hub of an eclectic group of people who are.
For many years she was a contributor to ABC’s she now works for CBS News and is on the boards of too many philanthropic organizations to list.To help Hobson manage her time, the firm turned a conference room adjoining her office into a nursery for Everest. But Hobson pulls out her phone to show me that that’s not quite accurate: she was actually sending e-mails by A. This is standard for her, even though Hobson, who runs all parts of the firm outside of research and investing, travels constantly.
