Outlook gal not updating in cached mode
FORCE OUTLOOK TO UPDATE THE OFFLINE ADDRESS BOOK 1.
This is my issue: We are using Exchange 2010 and Outlook 2007.
It does this by creating a local copy of the mailbox and synchronising the updates as needed.
Unfortunately, by default Outlook cached mode also includes the Global Address List.
The Outlook cached mode feature was designed to reduce network traffic between the Outlook clients and the Exchange server.
It also creates a faster response time of the Outlook client (especially when opening large attachments) and gives the ability to work offline.
24/02/13 If you create a new user, give them a mailbox, and they seemingly fail to appear then don’t panic! If you receive an error message then you can investigate further (Note: Set your Outlook client to send you a delivery report on the test email as well). The easiest way to do this is simply connect to Outlook Web Access, and query the GAL directly (OWA uses the GAL no the OAB like Outlook running in cached mode does).
Users not receiving latest contacts in cached mode UPDATE GLOBAL ADDRESS LIST USING EXCHANGE MANAGEMENT SHELL (EMS) The identity can either be “Default Global Address List” (As specified below) or Any other specific address list that you would like to update 7. This will reinstall the RBAC roles 🙂 NEXT OPEN EXCHANGE MANAGEMENT CONSOLE (EMC) BY DOING THE FOLLOWING: 1. Locate your Default Offline Address book and Right Click on it then select Update.
To select a range, click the first item in the range, hold down the “Shift” key, and then click the last item. I picked up that there is a lot of questions relating to Global Address Lists (GAL’s) not updating so I thought that I would create this article to show you how to Manually Update Global Address List GAL on Exchange 2010 and verify that it is indeed updating: WHEN WILL YOU USE THIS ARTICLE 1.
The following registry settings can be used to disable the Global Address List from being included in the cache.
Please note, this should be avoided for laptop/mobile users, as it will result in the Address Book being unavailable when working in Offline Mode.To resolve this you can disable Outlook cache mode, however this will remove the benefits it provides.
